Run to the Presence

Moses did not just pray — he interceded. He stood between God's anger and the people and appealed to God's own character. That is self control at its highest — restraining not just yourself but standing in the gap for others.

Exodus 32:13–14; 2 Corinthians 5:12–13

Moses did not just pray — he interceded. He stood between God's anger and the people and appealed to God's own character. That is self control at its highest — restraining not just yourself but standing in the gap for others.

This Week's Practice

When something troubles us our first instinct is often to talk about it — to someone else. But taking matters to people instead of to God can make us pallbearers of burdens we were never meant to carry. It can turn us into gossipers without even realizing it. It can plant seeds of division between brothers and sisters that take years to uproot. Moses took it to God. He did not run to the people — he ran to the presence. And because he did an entire nation was spared. This week when something troubles you — before you pick up the phone or send the message — take it to God first. "Lord, I stand in the gap for ___________. Let Your mercy prevail. Let Your character be the final word. Amen."

Prayer

Lord, teach me to stand in the gap like Moses — not reacting but interceding. Where I have been quick to take matters to people instead of to You — forgive me. Give me the self control to pray first and act second. Let intercession be my first response today. Amen.

Wednesday

Moses could have gone to the people — but he went to God. That one act of self control — choosing intercession over reaction — changed the destiny of an entire nation. What could change in your world if you made the same choice?

A Question to Sit With

Where this week have you directed your passion and energy toward God in prayer rather than toward a person or a conversation that could have caused division?

Friday

Prayer

Lord, teach me to stand in the gap like Moses — not reacting but interceding. Where I have been quick to react to people and situations — give me the self control to pray first and act second. Amen.

Weekend Nudge

This weekend — instead of reacting to one difficult person or situation choose to intercede for them instead. Pray for them by name. That is self control in action.

Journal
  1. Where did taking something to God in prayer instead of to a person change the outcome this week?
  2. Was there a moment where you almost became a pallbearer of someone else's burden? What stopped you?
  3. Who is one person you will intercede for this weekend instead of talking about?
