Monday
The vision is for an appointed time — it will not delay. And while we wait — the just shall live by faith. Self control is the discipline of waiting on God's timing without rushing ahead of His purpose.
There is a cost to arriving before God sends you. You can get what you wanted — the position, the relationship, the opportunity — and find yourself there unprepared. Without the integrity, the wisdom, the knowledge or the covering that only comes through waiting. What took a moment of impatience to obtain can take years to repair. But when you wait on God — when you let Him prepare you before He opens the door — you walk in covered. You walk in with integrity, honor, wisdom and His blessing on everything you touch. This week read 2 Peter 1:5–8 slowly each morning and ask God — "Lord, what are You still preparing in me before You open the next door?" Let that be your focus for the day.
Lord, as this month closes we thank You for every moment You built self control in us — through the warnings, the waiting, the intercessions and the surrenders. Continue the work You have started. Add to our faith virtue, knowledge, self control, steadfastness, godliness, brotherly affection and love. Let us be neither idle nor unfruitful in the knowledge of You. Amen.
Wednesday
By midweek you have had several days to sit with the cost of rushing ahead of God. The question is not just whether you waited — it is what you did with the waiting. Did you use it to draw closer to Him or did you fill it with worry and impatience?
As we close this month of Self Control — which virtue from 2 Peter 1:5–8 has God been building in you and which one still needs the most work?
Friday
Lord, as this month closes we thank You for every moment You built self control in us — through the warnings, the waiting, the intercessions and the surrenders. Continue the work You have started. Let us be neither idle nor unfruitful in the knowledge of You. Amen.
This weekend — go back and read 2 Peter 1:5–8 one more time. Identify the virtue God has grown most in you this month. Write it down and carry it into November as your testimony of what He did in October.
- Looking back over this month where did self control produce something in you that reaction or impatience never could have?
- Which of the virtues in 2 Peter 1:5–8 did God grow most in you this month?
- As we close October and step into a new topic — what one truth about self control will you carry forward?
